On March 19th, Branford Academy held a 1950’s style Up Do Contest for their students! Students first did research online in order to identify a hair style that they wanted to tackle. Once they chose the specific style, they had time to practice their favorite up do in order to prepare for the contest. The up dos that the students chose were inspired by movie stars of the 1950’s, such as Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, and Marilyn Monroe. In addition to creating these intricate and memorable up dos, students will also tell the story of whose style they idolize the most from the fifties.
Hairstyles from the fifties included curly up dos and wavy hair. Later on in the fifties, women opted more for beehives, or other more large-volume hairstyles. Students from Branford Academy enjoyed taking a step back into the 1950’s, where they got to research and get a feel for what women of this time desired in their style!
